None here. However, I was a judicial intern last year for one of the Judges so I'm not sure if I'll get a preliminary interview with Frank since he's already met and interviewed me! (Hoping that's the reason for the delay, anyhow).
email from frank mockler about 1 week ago - said the process is very slowly rolling along and he "hoped" the 2nd round would start this week but couldn't make any promises.
I highly doubt that everyone that applied got a 1st round interview, but I could be wrong. I still haven't received a call for a 2nd round interview. So, hopefully they are going to continue making calls...(fingers crossed).
i think the appeals court has made (at least one offer) pretty far down the ladder - not sure if this means the above positions have been taken or not.
I had a first round in mid-October for Sup Ct and they said second rounds would be following in a few weeks, but I haven't heard back yet...no rejection letter, but no 2nd round call either...they said applications are stacked to the ceiling...
Got a sup ct 2nd round interview call this afternoon - said they only had one day left to interview on (couldn't choose any day next week, for example) and only 3 times to choose from on that day.
Just an FYI, apparently the Mass. Appeals Court is still seeking fresh applicants. They contacted the career services office here at Duke last Thursday, with instructions on how to apply. I'd assume they've contacted other schools as well, which likely means they weren't happy with the first pool of applicants.
I realized that, whether they're protesting for themselves or on behalf of others, lawyers are almost always protesting something—that's their job.Isn't every lawsuit a form of protest against something or someone? ------------ janeashley massachusetts drug rehab
i heard that one person got all 54 offers for the east. it's a cost-cutting measure and this guy is fully capable of clerking for the entire court. fyi.
Anyone heard back from Mass Superior yet? They said "around" thanksgiving and the website claims decisions are "usually" made by the end of November...
The trial court is presently in a hiring freeze. Although clerks are considered "essential," the numner of Superior Court clerks they hire may be reduced. This uncertainty could be causing a delay.
I heard the same from an Appeals Court judge about the Trial Ct. hiring freeze...he said if they were thinking of hiring 40 clerks it'll probably be more like 20 now.
got an offer today. it says that it is a "conditional offer" (due to budget uncertainties) and that i am free to seek other employment until they know for sure if they'll have a position for me. did anyone else get a conditional offer? is anyone's offer non-conditional?
I also got a "conditional" offer today. I guess it's better than no offer, but it still feels pretty uncertain. I thought it was strange that they sent letters instead of making phone calls.
Spoke recently with one of the administrators at the Superior Court. This may answer some lingering uncertainties. They have made a very conservative round of conditional offers; there are NO "non-conditional" offers out there. The number of conditional offers made is less than they'd normally make. So those who haven't received rejection letters could still get offers depending on how much funding is received.
I am one of the people who did not receive a conditional offer or a rejection. I just spoke to Linda Layne who informed me that as "someone in the middle," it was very unlikely that I would receive an offer from the Superior Court for next term. In fact, she said that while she considers herself a pessimist, she believed that not even all of the individuals receiving conditional offers were going to ultimately receive full offers.
i got a letter from the superior court, but i don't know its contents b/c i'm away from my apt. i was just told by my aptmate that i got a letter from the superior court. i sense rejection!
Superior Court has zero budget for hiring new, e.g., 1L clerks. They are retaining those they have who are not moving on to other jobs b/c those clerks had already been worked into the budget before the latest round of budget cuts were announced.
I'm very disappointed at the end result of this process. Have they decided to keep on second-year clerks because they already have the experience and don't require the same level of training? Does anyone know how many clerks they plan to retain?
Those with conditional offers really got the short end of the stick.
They are apparently keeping current clerks on for the simple reason that the budget allows retention of current employees, but no new hires. Given the current budgetary crisis, this is their only way to get law clerks. At least in theory, this has nothing to do with the (negligible) training that first-year clerks receive.
I received the "letter" as well. Disappointing to say the least, especially will all the news about where all the money is really going. (ie. Deval's wife's friend, the Kennedy Library....really important stuff)

Chief Justice Marshall is interviewing next week.
Anyone heard from SJC?
any more news on sjc interviews?
I have heard second-hand that J. Cowin has called (or made at least one call).
Cordy hired a BC person. Marshall is done hiring.
how many clerks does each SJC judge hire? anyone heard anything from the Appeals Court yet? Any other SJC judges?
Believe SJC Justices get 2 clerks each. Appeals Court gets 1 clerk each, except for the Appeals Court chief who gets 2.
has anyone been contacted by Frank Mockler at the Appeals Court yet?
Rumor that J. Botsford has interviewed at least one. Really hoping that's not the case...
SJC is done.
September 24, 2008 11:30 AM: Yes, for a preliminary interview.
Any more news re: Appeals Court interviewing/hiring?
None here. However, I was a judicial intern last year for one of the Judges so I'm not sure if I'll get a preliminary interview with Frank since he's already met and interviewed me! (Hoping that's the reason for the delay, anyhow).
Has anyone started interviewing with Judges on the Appeals Court yet?
I know someone who has been called for an interview this week. I'm not sure with who.
anyone actually started interviewing w/ appeals court judges yet? I've been told I'm "in" the second round, but no further news.
Re: Appeals Court - when/how did you find out you are "in" the second round?
email from frank mockler about 1 week ago - said the process is very slowly rolling along and he "hoped" the 2nd round would start this week but couldn't make any promises.
So... Anyone have any other news about the Appeals Court? Have any judges hired yet? Where on the ladder are we?
Interviews are being conducted this week.
Does anyone know if anyone has been hired yet (probably by judges up the ladder)?
are individual judges calling, or do you get another email from frank?
Anyone received a call-back for 2nd round of superior court interviews??
as far as i know, e-mail from mockler
which judges are interviewing this week? Anyone lower down on the ladder than Kantrowitz?
anyone have any new news from the appeals court?
Has the Superior Court started interviewing?
Superior Court was doing first round interviews the last few weeks, not sure if they are over yet? Anyone get 2nd round calls yet?
nope haven't received a second round call for Superior Court...They said by the end of October...anyone heard anything yet?
got a call this morning for 2nd interviews for mass super ct. my 2nd interview is scheduled for mid-nov.
anyone have any idea if they give everyone a round 1 interview? and how many get round 2 interviews?
I highly doubt that everyone that applied got a 1st round interview, but I could be wrong. I still haven't received a call for a 2nd round interview. So, hopefully they are going to continue making calls...(fingers crossed).
anyone? appeals court? anyone?
Any Superior Court updates? Think they are done making Round 2 calls? Anyone recieve a rejection letter?
Is this blog dead?
i think the appeals court has made (at least one offer) pretty far down the ladder - not sure if this means the above positions have been taken or not.
has anyone scheduled/had an interview with any of the less senior judges on the appeals court?
do you know which judge?
the appeals court is sending out rejection emails...
Has anyone gotten a rejection letter from the MA Superior Court? Or gotten a call for an interview this past week as opposed to on Oct. 29th?
No call or rejection letter here. Were you told when you'd hear by? I thought by now. I'm assuming I won't get a call though.
I wasn't offered a first round interview, but didn't get a rejection letter, either. I am not holding my breath....
I had a first round in mid-October for Sup Ct and they said second rounds would be following in a few weeks, but I haven't heard back yet...no rejection letter, but no 2nd round call either...they said applications are stacked to the ceiling...
Anyone else get superior court 2nd round interviews this past week or anything?
Got a sup ct 2nd round interview call this afternoon - said they only had one day left to interview on (couldn't choose any day next week, for example) and only 3 times to choose from on that day.
Guess then no call today prolly means a no go on Round 2. Too bad...

Recieved rejection letter yesterday after having a Round 1 interview about a month ago..
Any idea when the Superior Court is making offers? Has anyone heard anything?
i heard that one person got all 54 offers for the east. it's a cost-cutting measure and this guy is fully capable of clerking for the entire court. fyi.
The word is that most of the Appeals Court hiring is done (only one or maybe two justices still hiring and those should be done soon).
I don't think Superior Court has made offers yet...
Anyone heard back from Mass Superior yet? They said "around" thanksgiving and the website claims decisions are "usually" made by the end of November...
Nothing yet from the Superior Court on this end...
I heard, if anything, it'd be more like 55 down to 40. At least that what I hope I heard...
does anyone know whether the appeals court has finished its pool hiring yet?
got an offer today. it says that it is a "conditional offer" (due to budget uncertainties) and that i am free to seek other employment until they know for sure if they'll have a position for me. did anyone else get a conditional offer? is anyone's offer non-conditional?
I also got a "conditional" offer today. I guess it's better than no offer, but it still feels pretty uncertain. I thought it was strange that they sent letters instead of making phone calls.
What's the exact wording of your conditional offer? Does it say "Unfortunately...we are unable offer you a position..." That's what mine says.
That sounds like a rejection letter, unfortunately.
Any idea of when they will be able to turn these conditional offers into real offers?
Anyone not hear anything from MA Superior yet, i.e. no offer or rejection?
I haven't heard anything yet. Here's hoping they save the best for last.
In other words, we already would have received a rejection letter?
Any idea what the remaining pool consists of? Would everyone who did not get any offer receive one if adequate funding materializes?
I am one of the people who did not receive a conditional offer or a rejection. I just spoke to Linda Layne who informed me that as "someone in the middle," it was very unlikely that I would receive an offer from the Superior Court for next term. In fact, she said that while she considers herself a pessimist, she believed that not even all of the individuals receiving conditional offers were going to ultimately receive full offers.
Anyone heard anything regarding any of the Western MA Superior Court positions?
did anyone get letters from the superior court yesterday?
What kind of letters?
i got a letter from the superior court, but i don't know its contents b/c i'm away from my apt. i was just told by my aptmate that i got a letter from the superior court. i sense rejection!
does anyone know where the appeals court pool hiring stands?
Anyone with any new news on Superior Court hiring, e.g., if conditionals will be turned into full offers?
Nothing on this end - it is getting to be pretty frustrating, no?
Frustrating, but understandable. Imagine what the court is thinking facing the prospect of having no clerks. That must be frustrating, too.
Yesterday I received a letter axing my conditional offer because the court is "not hiring NEW clerks" . . . not thrilled about it.
Did anyone else receive this letter?
Which court?
I received the same letter axing my conditional offer.
Superior Court has zero budget for hiring new, e.g., 1L clerks. They are retaining those they have who are not moving on to other jobs b/c those clerks had already been worked into the budget before the latest round of budget cuts were announced.
My conditional got axed, too, about a week ago.
yep, the Superior Court has been making offers for second-year positions today . . .
I'm very disappointed at the end result of this process. Have they decided to keep on second-year clerks because they already have the experience and don't require the same level of training? Does anyone know how many clerks they plan to retain?
Those with conditional offers really got the short end of the stick.
this article mentions trial court law clerks for next fiscal year:
http://www.massbar.org/for-attorneys/publications/lawyers-journal/2009/march/additional-budget-cuts
They are apparently keeping current clerks on for the simple reason that the budget allows retention of current employees, but no new hires. Given the current budgetary crisis, this is their only way to get law clerks. At least in theory, this has nothing to do with the (negligible) training that first-year clerks receive.
Thanks - that makes more sense. I wonder how many current clerks will stay on board for round 2.
I received the "letter" as well. Disappointing to say the least, especially will all the news about where all the money is really going. (ie. Deval's wife's friend, the Kennedy Library....really important stuff)
