Are any district judges in CA interviewing now, or are they just holding the apps til later in the summer?
Per OSCAR, Chief Judge Stotler in CDCA is not hiring for 09-10.
Do ANY CA district judges hire early?
08 Grad. Just received an e-mail from Chief Judge Walker in ND Cal. According to his assistant, he has started the interviewing process and will be conducting a few interviews before the onslaught in September.
Class of '08, just got an email from Walker's chambers as well:
"Thank you for submitting your law clerk application materials to Chief Judge Walker. Unfortunately, he will not be offering you an interview."
Aside from Walker, have any of the N.D. Cal. judges started interviewing?
Are any of the CA dist. ct. judges hiring interviewing 3Ls off plan?
Chesney is interviewing. Not sure if she will decide now or in Sept.

Has anyone heard anything about Wilson? He's supposed to be great.
Received form email via OSCAR from Judge Feess saying that he's just beginning to review apps.
Have any graduates heard from Feess or Matz?
Is Judge Florence-Marie Cooper, in the Central DIstrict, still hiring? Or is she filled up?
Grads - do we think our applications have been discarded at this point, if we haven't heard from judges, or is there still hope?
I have not heard of a lot of grads who have been contacted by CA district judges, nor has there been much activity here. I think a lot of judges are waiting.
I'm a grad and have been contacted by very few district court judges. I would say less than 25% have contacted me and I applied in early July.
Care to share which California district court judges have contacted you?
Off the top of my head, Breyer, Walker, Whyte, and a few of the magistrates as well.
If you're being contacted by Breyer and Walker, I'm curious why you applied to magistrates!
Haha, I see the ambiguity in my statements. I've been rejected by those three district court judges and I've heard nothing from most of the others. As for interviewing with ND CAL district judges, I am not the one to speak.

I just received a very nice post card from Judge William D. Keller (C.D. Cal.).
"Dear Applicant,
While I appreciate your interest in clerking for me, I have taken Senior Judge status as of October 1999. Therefore, I am not hiring law clerks at this time.
Thank you for your interest and good luck."
I have heard that Judge Guilford has interviewed alums but won't be making final decisions until he's seen the 3L candidates.

I've heard nothing from N.D. Cal, and a couple of calls to chambers has revealed stressed-out and overwhelmed clerks and judicial assistants. Seems like they're behind the curve and overwhelmed. I haven't heard yet of anyone I know getting a call from any N.D. Cal judges.
Anything from CDCA?
Anyone have a better sense than I do about how this usually goes? I was under the impression that if I was going to receive calls it would have started happening by now. Is that true? Should I just calm down? (I know the answer to the latter question, regardless).
I know several CDCA judges last year who didnt call til day 2 or later. Especially since the time for reviewing was so short this year, I wouldnt take it to mean anything if you haven't heard. Generally its only a deathknell for Ct of Apps judges.

Fogel is the only one in the ND that I have heard of making calls today. Illston is currently out of the country and may not call for a couple of weeks.

I get the impression that Snyder called. Called chambers and let them know i would be in the area, they called back and gave me an interview spot. They had definitely been calling others that day b/c the clerk mentioned he had done the "how things will work on interview day" spiel with a lot of people already.

I've heard that Stotler generally waits until later in the fall or the winter to start interviewing.
According to my career services, Alsup was pre-screening and interviewing this week and Mendez was calling today.

an alum from my law school was already contacted by mendez but when i spoke to career services i was told the interview will happen this week.

Otero has some interviews scheduled for early October. Real (unsurprisingly, given the latest ABA Journal article) is aggressively trying to fill interview slots.

Miller's (SDCA) chambers say he hires late, but last year he hired pretty much in accordance with the plan.
Conti (NDCA) generally hires in October, but also generally only hires all-American type males.
As noted above, Stotler is waiting until January.
Unless anyone has info to the contrary, it doesn't sound like Whyte (NDCA) has started interviews.
