Post an anonymous comment with information regarding clerkship interviews, hirings, vacancies, and the like, regarding the U.S. District Court Judges of New York.
Judge Block in the EDNY is looking for a short term clerk (3-4 months) to begin ASAP. The position could become a 1 or 2 year position (depending on whether his current 2-year clerk decides to stay for another year or not). Interested candidates should send applications by mail and can email questions to charles_cone@nyed.uscourts.gov.
Does anyone know if any of the magistrates ever hire after the calendar? I have heard that magistrates in other districts sometimes do; does it happen in SDNY and EDNY?
Help me manage my expectations here . . . I'm an alum with a so-so GPA from a T14, but I've got 3 rec letters that are strong and (I think) well balanced--public interest, a partner, and a professor. Are rec letters and some interesting experience enough? or does my GPA immediately put me on the discard pile?
It depends on how "so-so" your grades are -- if they're not in the top third, it probably will go in the discard pile. Though perhaps you might get a second look if you're at a V10 or 20 firm. Also, it will probably depend more on where you are applying -- if not in the top third, SDNY is probably out of reach, but others should be within reach.
Based on what I've been told by friends who are current and former clerks, and on comments in the clerkship thread over at ATL, all is not completely lost if you haven't heard from anyone yet. It's not a great sign, but it's not the end of the world either.
To Sept 11, 11:19 p.m., The only EDNY judges that have been confirmed as finished (as far as I can tell) by this blog, OSCAR or postcard are: -Ross -Vitaliano -Weinstein -Bloom -Reyes I'm sure there are others, but this the list I've put together. Additions are welcome.
Any updates on Daniels? Had an interview with him back in July. Really impressed with him, but haven't heard anything since. Not sure if "no news" is "good news" in these scenarios.
Most of you have likely seen that Mauskopf just listed herself on OSCAR.
Any views on what that means for those of us who applied to her two weeks ago? I assume re-apply is a great way to earn a clerk's ire, but do you think it means the applications she already received got thrown out?
There should be a Law Clerk Addict for the SDNY. I will start it in this post. For 2009:
Wood: NYU Sand: NYU Kaplan: NYU Sweet: NYU Patterson: Harvard Koeltl: NYU, Harvard Scheindlin: Yale Lynch: Harvard Rakoff: Harvard, Harvard, NYU Berman: NYU Holwell: Harvard Sullivan: Georgetown Leisure: Columbia
To 12:58 pm on 9/14: Did you previously apply for a different Mauskopf position (i.e., one not starting in January 2009)? Or did she re-post for the same position?
Anyone else know anything about her hiring schedule for the January 2009 position?
Wood: NYU Sand: NYU Kaplan: NYU Cederbaum: Boalt, Columbia Griesa: Georgetown, Columbia Swain: Boalt Sweet: NYU Patterson: Harvard Koeltl: NYU, Harvard Scheindlin: Yale Lynch: Harvard Rakoff: Harvard, Harvard, NYU Berman: NYU Holwell: Harvard Sullivan: Georgetown Leisure: Columbia

What's going on out there? Is it possible that Chin, Stanton, Crotty, Mauskopf & Co still haven't hired? Or is it simply the case that the folks who were hired have forsaken the notification blog? I thought SDNY and EDNY would be wrapped up in the first 2 weeks, but there seem to be a lot of question marks out there.
I called Magistrate Judge Kevin Fox's chambers, and he's still interviewing.
I also called Judge Mauskopf's chambers, and she too is still interviewing. The guy I spoke to made it seem like they're not in any hurry, even though the clerkship was supposed to start last week.

How about SDNY? Any judges that haven't made calls?
Based on what I've been told by friends who are current and former clerks, and on comments in the clerkship thread over at ATL, all is not completely lost if you haven't heard from anyone yet. It's not a great sign, but it's not the end of the world either.
