2009-10 Clerkship Season
80 comments:
Shepherd is currently interviewing 3Ls for 09-10.
Bright is done for 09-10.
Does anyone know if Judge Beam follows the hiring plan?
Beam followed the plan the last two years. I suspect he will again. Very cool judge, BTW.
Judge Beam does follow the hiring plan; and I don't think he rushes his interviews and hiring decisions as much as some other judges.
Anyone who interviewed with Shepherd hear anything yet?
Judge Beam is not following the hiring plan this year, and is currently scheduling and conducting interviews. He is also still accepting applications.
Just called Shepherd's office: not accepting any more applications for 09-10.
Bowman has no positions open.
M. Smith is interviewing grads the week of the 21st and hopes to make decisions by the end of july.
please disregard previous post on Judge M. Smith...meant for the 9th Cir. blog! Sorry!
Anyone know about Murphy?
Is Bowman hiring this year?
Any word on Colloton's 2008 spot? Thanks.
I think Koz has one spot left for 09-10.
Oops. Please ignore the post above about Koz.
Shephard is done
I got a letter about two weeks ago from Arnold stating that he would consider my application when he began the hiring process for 09-10 clerks.
Does anyone know if:
1) Everyone gets these letters?
2) When Arnold typically begins reviewing grad applications
For those who don't know, Magill has been inactive since 2007 (even though his name still shows up in OSCAR). So, obviously, he doesn't hire clerks anymore.
Judge Ripple's OSCAR posting says he follows the plan, so he must be interviewing only grads.
Please disregard above comment re: Judge Ripple--intended for 7th Cir. link.
Shepherd has finished hiring for 09-10.
Anyone know anything about Judge Benton?
Last year I don't think Benton interviewed any grads early. He waited until he was allowed to interview 3Ls (pursuant to the plan) and did all of his interviews then. In fact, I don't know for sure whether he interviewed any grads at all.
I'm a grad and I received an e-mail rejection from Judge Arnold today.
Has anyone heard from Judge Smith in Little Rock?
Does anyone know anything about Judge Gibson? Does he follow the plan? Has he hired anyone?
Anyone know who Arnold hired?
Per chambers, Judge Colloton has been interviewing for the position for fall of 2008.
Thomas is my dream judge. Does someone with top 15% grades at a top 10 school, on Law Review, have a shot?
I can't tell if his being in Montana makes him less desirable to applicants, or if everyone wants to work for him because he's such a great judge...
Ignore above--posted to the 9th circuit but somehow it ended up here.
Does anyone know when Judge Wollman schedules interviews/makes offers?
Can anyone tell me what stats one needs to be competitive for Wollman? Last year it looks like he hired from Indiana...
Judge Wollman seems to have had clerks from Harvard, Yale, etc., but I think he often hires from Duke (USNWR 12), Minnesota (USNWR 22), Iowa (USNWR 27), or other well-regarded state schools. I think it definitely helps to be near the top of the class, but a regional connection or interesting biography might go a long way too.
Does anybody have news on Riley?
Has anyone started calling yet today?
A post on ATL said that the 8th circuit had a conference this week and a lot of the judges are traveling. Consequently, they will not be making calls for a couple of days. Can anyone confirm that?
All I can say is, I applied to the 8th Circuit en masse and have heard nothing. I have a pretty good connection to one judge, and have three interviews lined up with other Circuit judges. I was sort of surprised by the 8th cir. silence, so a conference would make sense.
The ATL post is incorrect - the Eighth Circuit does not have a conference this week. Sorry.
Has Riley called?
The post had said 8th? or 10th?. The 10th did.
Has anyone heard from Murphy?
Can definitely confirm that some Eighth Circuit Judges have been calling.
Colloton and Melloy have at least made some calls
Judge Wollman started calling today.
Benton called at least some 3Ls today.
Loken called 3Ls yesterday.
Gruender, anyone? And any word on Colloton's '08 opening?
any news on bye?
any news on lewenski smith out of arkansas?
Bye will start interviewing tomorrow. Anyone heard anything from Murphy?
It's Lavenski, not Lewenski
i heard that smith will start next week.
and i hope you didnt send a cover letter with "lewenski" in it. unless you were applying to monica
No word from Murphy for me.
Does anybody know how many Riley's hiring?
Does anyone know how Judge Bye makes offers? Does he wait until he finishes his scheduled interviews or does he offer as he goes along? Any idea if he offers on the spot or does he call or send a letter after the interview?
Murphy is done for 09-10.
Judge Bye usually sends a mime to your apartment. You have to interpret the offer. It's awkward but effective.
Heard that Wollman took one from Penn.
Benton hired a Texas 3L
Thanks 11:09. If I find a dead mime outside my door, should I take that as a bad sign?
maybe he's just asleep
melloy hired two iowa 3Ls for 09-10
Does anyone know if Gruender made his offers this week?
Riley is done.
melloy hired from harvard as well
Gruender is done.
Benton is done.
Is Bright finished hiring?
Any Eighth Circuit Judges that haven't finished hiring?
Riley hired an Iowa grad for '09.
Judge Gruender hired a George Mason 3L for '09
Wollman hired an American U 3L today
shepherd looking for 2010 already
Bright may still be looking for 2009.
Murphy hired for 2010.
Bye hired a Minnesota '08 grad for 2009-10.
Melloy hired two Iowa 3Ls. In other news, the sun continues to rise in the east.
Deadline for staff attorney apps was October 31. Anyone have any info on the interviewing/hiring schedule for 8th Circuit staff attorneys?
For those who don't know, Law Clerk Addict is covering the 2010-11 cycle, and has a notifications section as well as a section devoted to the Eighth Circuit.
