Does anyone know when Rogers and Siler begin reviewing grad applications?
Does anyone know anything about Sutton?
Sutton wants to be a feeder judge. He tends to take those who could go on to clerk for the Supreme Court.
I know someone who already interviewed with Rogers
Judge Gibbons has sent out interview offers to alums.
I know that Judge Griffin only considers applicants with prior clerkship experience, but does anyone know when he interviews these applicants?
Has Batchelder finished hiring?
Will White's chambers be in Detroit?
Kethledge got confirmed.
I think Batchelder has not yet completed hiring, but she may have finished taking applications.
Daughtrey has hired a UVA '08 grad.
Gilman and Merritt have also hired UVA grads.
Where will Kethledge's chambers be?
Got a letter from Daughtrey saying that all her positions are now filled.
I know from a reliable source that Griffin typically interviews in mid-to-late August. I've heard he is an exceptional boss, judge and person.
Kethledge already has law clerks for this term (according to his assistant at Bush, Seyferth, Kethledge) but will be accpeting applications for 2009.
Where will his chambers be?
In a June 12 entry above, someone wrote that "Sutton wants to be a feeder judge." He is a feeder judge, with three or four of his former clerks securing Supreme Court clerkships already.
Received an email attachment letter from Judge Siler. By the end of July, he will decide if he is interviewing grads.
I received that same letter from Siler. Does he not normally review graduate applications?
Has anyone heard from Boggs? Are Gibbons, Gilman, and Merritt still interviewing?
Boggs' OSCAR listing says he's not hiring (though it's a bit cryptic--says he's not hiring for 2008 but no other info).
Judge Siler hired a Georgetown grad for 08-09, so I would guess he normally reviews grad applications.
Boggs is interviewing grads
Does anyone know how many grads Boggs typically interviews?
Rogers has hired a Duke alum.
Any idea if Rogers is still contacting graduates, or has he scheduled all his interviews already?
4:51:
I was under the impression Boggs isn't hiring. Do you know otherwise?
According to his chambers, Boggs has positions available for 2009, and follows the plan for 3Ls.
hmmm . . . that's contrary to his OSCAR posting. Thanks for the info.
Any word on Cook?
There seems to be kind of a lull right now. Does anyone know if the Sixth Circuit judges are still looking and interviewing graduates or are they waiting to see 3L applications at this point?
The 6th has a sitting next week, so I imagine they're all putting hiring aside to prepare for that.
Does Siler still have an 08-09 spot left?
McKeague has interviewed at least one University of Texas student.
Was the Texas student a grad or a 3L?
Does anyone know at what address applications can be sent to Kethledge?
If you call the clerks office in Cincinnati they would have that information. I had to do that to find the information about newly appointed Judge Agee in the 4th Cir.
I sent my stuff for Kethledge to his old law office, hoping they'll pass it along.
1:06pm, I'm almost positive McKeague adheres to the 3L hiring plan. Pretty much a guarantee that he's only interviewing grads right now.
8:52 Kethledge's current assistant is going with him to the 6th, so I am sure he will receive your app.
Has anyone heard from Griffin, Cook, or Siler yet? (Siler for 09-10)
Murphy, the new E.D. Mich judge, has interviewed 4 people for 2 spots hiring immediately. He will not be making decisions until mid August. No word on 09-10.
Any idea whether Murphy (E.D.Mich.) will still accept applications, and where to send them? He is not listed in Oscar. Thanks.
Anybody have any information about Kethledge beyond what is available online? E.g. what's his personality like, judicial philosophy, etc etc.?
Has anyone heard from Griffin or know when he'll start calling graduates?
Received an e-mail letter dated July 25 from Siler indicating he had not yet decided whether to interview grads.
I got the same letter from Siler back in June. Does he not usually consider graduates?
Anyone know anything about any of the judges in Ohio as far as their status on interviewing graduates?
I am pretty sure that both Kethledge and White will be in Detroit.
Judge Siler favors candidates with appalachian backgrounds.
Does anyone know anything about Judge Cole?
Has anyone heard anything from or about Griffin? I know he only accepts applications from those doing district court clerkships now.
Judge Siler sent an email today requesting an interview.
ditto, 3:28
I also got an interview request from Siler. No Appalachian connection for me, but I am doing a district court clerkship.
Are you interviewees 3Ls or grads? Also, what schools if you don't mind disclosing?
6:07 is a graduate from Texas.
McKeague: I don't know his current policy, but it is my understanding that McKeague has not adhered strictly to the hiring plan in the past. He may have waited until the plan date to formally extend offers, but I understand he has extended offers to 3L's informally before then. So, might want to give it a shot sooner rather than later.
Kethledge: There are high hopes for Kethledge. He is a former SCOTUS clerk and a really nice guy. I think he'll be a terrific judge.
When is Siler setting up his interviews for? Is he only interviewing grads right now?
Griffin is interviewing
Do you know if he called all the grads he's planning to interview?
10:58 No, I just know a friend who interviewed with him this week
10:32: I can confirm that McKeague does not always strictly follow the hiring plan.
Griffin is done. Michigan grad
Did Griffin only have one position available?
Does anyone know of Rogers is still reviewing grad applications?
Does anyone know if Siler typically gives offers at the end of the interview or whether he waits to interview everyone before making hiring decisions?
During a previous hiring year I received an offer from Siler. The offer came approx three weeks after the interview.
8:50 yes, I called chambers today
August 7 - 3:28, 4:38, and 6:07: are you all interviewing with Siler for the 08-09 term or 09-10 term?
I'm 6:07 and I'm interviewing with Siler for the 09-10 term.
Kethledge clerked for Justice Scalia and has a conservative legal philosophy. He will sit in Ann Arbor.
If it matters to anyone, Judge Kethledge clerked for Justice Kennedy, not Justice Scalia.
Does anyone know when Batchelder will (or did) begin interviewing grads?
Judge Gilman has hired a UVA grad and a Northwestern grad. I believe he is finished hiring.
Does anyone know if Judge Siler has made an offer yet for the remaining 08-09 spot?
As of yesterday Judge Siler had not made an offer on the 08-09 spot. I would expect it to be any day since the person would be replacing a clerk leaving next week.
Thanks. How do you know that Judge Siler had not made an offer as of yesterday?
I am a graduate and I interviewed with Judge Siler yesterday for 09-10. He mentioned it in the interview.
Was the interview in London? If so, what's that place like?
It's about 15,000 ppl. Only a couple places sell alcohol and those are only restaurants ("damp" county). But Lexington is not far away (1 hour) and it has some fun things to do.
Gilman is done. 4 Graduates. Georgetown, UVA, Northwestern, and Vanderbuilt.
Has anyone who interviewed with Siler heard anything from him yet?
Any word on Ohio judges?
11:50, I interviewed with Siler but have not heard anything. My understanding was that he would make his selections after considering applications from 3Ls.
I also interviewed with Judge Siler. I got the impression he would make decisions before interviewing 3Ls, but that may have been a mistaken impression. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
Any word on Cook?
Has anyone heard from Kethledge regarding an interview for 09-10?
Judge Clay hired a graduate for 09-10 and has begun calling 3Ls.
I am a grad and I interviewed with Siler. I haven't heard from him either, so I guess he is waiting to interview the 3Ls.
Boggs is emailing out his quiz to 3Ls.
I am a 3L and received a letter via e-mail from Siler saying that he would be inviting students for interviews after reviewing the applications further and planned to make a final decision by October if not before.
Any info about how Judge Gibbons goes about the interview/hiring process? Wondering if she does exploding offers, waits until she interviews lots of people and then chooses, or somewhere in between. I heard she sent an email to 50ish people last year??
Just heard from a friend that Judge White in Detroit (new appointee) is making calls.
11:37, has Gibbons already sent out emails?
8:12--not that I know of. That was knowledge from last year.
Anyone know if Moore or Batchelder are calling yet?
rogers sent out his emails
Sutton has been calling.
Cole?
Cole has made some calls.
Siler hired an NU alum for 2009-2010.
1:09
When was Sutton calling?
Do you know if Siler is still considering the other grads he's interviewed? I assume NU stand for Northwestern?
Cook and Rogers have set up interviews.
Both Moore and Cole called and set up interviews.
Is Griffin definitely done?
Sutton, Boggs, and Gibbons all called 3Ls yesterday. From what I heard, they all called right around noon. I don't know if they're done calling, but I would assume so, since I know more than one interviewee with both Sutton and Boggs, and that's usually how COA rolls.
7:06-- NU does mean Northwestern. And I am not sure whether he is still considering other alums that he interviewed previously.
so rogers is done?
Has Siler contacted 3Ls?
Siler sent me an email stating he was reviewing applications and would contact me if he wanted to interview me.
I got the same email as 8:44
Does anyone know if Batchelder is calling?
I'm not sure if everyone gets those Siler e-mails, but they may be a good sign.
I'm a grad. I got one of those e-mails in July and then interviewed with Siler in August.
8:45, Ditto.
A Texas Law 3L accepted a clerkship with McKeague.
Cole hired a Texas Alum a few weeks ago.
Kethledge has hired a Michigan 3L.
Boggs hired from Texas.
8:48, how do you know that? do you know how many additional spots Kethledge has available for 09-10, if any?
Gibbons hired a Texas 3L.
Texas is wrecking shop.
09/08 11:33 - Confirm; Griffin is done
Cole = Texas grad
Rogers = Texas 3L
Clay, Cook, and Kethledge (2 clerks) have hired Michigan 3Ls.
Has anyone heard from Norris yet?
Is Kethledge done?
Is Rogers done?
Kethledge hired a Penn 3L.
Gibbons is done per chambers.
Kethledge has hired two Michigan 3Ls.
Norris hired last week.
Sutton is done
White hired a Penn 3L and a Penn grad.
11:29, when did White call?
11:29 here - White called Friday evening.
bummer.
does anyone know if cook has made more hires?
Cook is done - filled last two spots on Friday; Anyone know about Batchelder or Moore?
Judge Batchelder has hired a Notre Dame 3L for 2009-10.
10:58 - do you know where Cook's hires were from?
Any more news on McKeague?
Cook finished last Thursday
One of Cook's is a Michigan 3L.
Has McKeague filled all his spots?
Can anyone confirm that Kethledge and White are DONE?
Is McKeague done?
Judge Rogers has completed his hiring for the 2009 season, according to his chambers.
Anybody know anything about Suhrheinrich?
White is done.
cook hired a HLS 3L
Cole hired an NYU grad a couple weeks ago
Does anyone have any info on Martin for 09-10?
Kethledge is done, per chambers.
Anyone know if Boggs has filled all positions yet?
Cook hired a HLS, Michigan, Notre Dame, and an experienced district court clerk.
Is Batchelder done?
Moore is done.
Anyone hear from Siler lately?
Any update on Boggs?
Ripple's done...interviews next week got cancelled.
Has Siler made any other hires yet?
I am also waiting to hear from Judge Siler.
siler is done
Where did Siler hire from?
Just got the rejection letter from Griffin.
Is Siler done completely, or just with grads?
Does anyone know if Ryan is done?
Anyone know about Suhreinreich?
Ryan is interviewing this week.
Anyone know where Siler's other hires were from?
Any word from Batchelder recently?
Siler hired a Duke grad
Any word on Ryan?
Ryan is done hiring. Letters were sent out late Friday.
Where did Ryan hire from?
Anyone heard from Batchelder?
Any news from White's chambers?
Anyone know what is going on with the Siler spot for 09-10?
has anybody applied for the new clerkship with judge siler (london, KY)? if so, did you receive a general email that apps are being reviewed.
I sent a personal letter to Judge Siler and received a generic response letter.
Has anyone had an interview with Siler yet? Does anyone know why he suddenly needs someone June to following September?
Judge Siler often hires one clerk very late in the process, and that clerk may or may not start at the same time as the others.
I interviewed with him during a previous appication season, but took another COA position before I heard back from him. His interviews are quite relaxed.
Thanks for the information 11:14--How long did you have to wait to get an interview? Was it immediately? Just trying to figure out if I even have a shot at this point. Thanks
I interviewed with him during a different application cycle so it may not be the same. Also, I was already clerking for a district court judge, so I was not bound by the plan.
I got a generic e-mail letter soon after I sent my application in the beginning of the summer. I then got another e-mail letter requesting me to call to set up an interview towards the end of the summer.
There was probably a 6-8 week gap between the generic letter and the one to set up the interview.
april 11, 8:14--siler hires one so late because he is only automatically approved for three clerks, but likes to have four. he waits on approval for that fourth slot (which from what I hear is generally automatically given--when I interviewed in 07 he had four clerks) to have the interview for that position.
has anyone heard about an interview with Siler? Today (may 1) is the last day for applications so there may not be any word yet but i'm just curious. thanks
got a generic email today from Siler acknowledging receipt of app and saying some people would be contacted for interviews. does everyone get this from Siler?
4:10--I did. i don't have official confirmation on this, but it sounded like he was waiting on the application period to close before scheduling interviews.
I received the same generic email, but it said that some might be contacted in April, so I'm not sure if that means he may contacted some already or if he just decided to wait it out.
I received the same generic e-mail, and haven't heard back beyond that yet. Im assuming he was waiting for the application period to close, he only had it up there a month.
4:26 - did you get that email today, or in april sometime?
I got it like two days after I applied, at the beginning of April.
Anyone get an interview with Siler yet?
I received the same letter from Siler at the end of April indicating he would be conducting interviews soon.
The Sixth Circuit conference is this week (May 4 - May 8) in Hilton Head, SC. As a result, I would not expect Judge Siler to conduct any interviews until the following week (May 11 - 15) at the earliest.
I interviewed with Siler during a previous cycle, so this may be different, but I got a second e-mail letter to call him to set up an interview about 2 or 3 weeks after everyone got the first generic one.
The last poster is right. All 6th Circuit judges are away this week. Don't expect to hear anything until next week at the very earliest. Siler likes to take his time on things.
