Looking at the comments from last year (i.e., 2008-09 clerkships), there were claims that Straub already hired for 2009-10, and even hired one for 2010-11. Is this true, or does Straub still have openings for 2009?
Does anyone know if the information on the Law Clerk Addict site is correct about Wesley and Cabranes already hiring clerks from Boston College?
I didn't realize either of these judges were even accepting applications yet.
Wesley hired someone from Boston College last September for 2009-2010.
Walker is apparently full for 2009-10.
Does anyone know if Wesley hired the Penn grad last September or this summer?
Wesley hasn't hired this summer - though he has made a few phone calls to grads. He has 1 spot open for 2009-2010, but may fill a spot or 2 of the 3 remaining (both of the overlapping Jan-Dec spots are already filled) for 2010-2011 year during this hiring cycle if he finds people he likes.
OSCAR seems to show that Hall is done. Anyone know where he hired from?
Sotomayor is interviewing this week.
Straub started calling two weeks ago. But, he is taking his time and interviewing a bunch of people.
Anyone have any info on Livingston or McLaughlin?
Is Katzmann full for 2009-2010?
Katzmann requires his clerks to do a district court clerkship first, and helps secure them. So he is certainly full for 2009-10.
I interviewed with several judges a few weeks ago and haven't heard back from any of them....Is this a bad sign, or do some judges just tend to wait until mid-summer to make offers?
From the looks of last year's Clerkship Notification Blog, many judges didn't complete their until July. I don't think it's a bad sign unless you the judge makes exploding offers to clerks he wants to hire.
At least eight judges have hired fifteen clerks among them.
Raggi is calling alums
Per chambers, Straub, Sack, and Parker are all done for 2009-10.
Jacobs has hired a UVA '08 grad.
Is Raggi finished hiring?
Has Raggi hired anyone? As far as I know, she was still interviewing this week.
Are Sotomayor, Parker, Jacobs, and Livingston done?
Straub, Parker, Sack, and Katzmann are all done
Pretty sure Sotomayor is done with her two grads and is saving two for students.
Just confirmed with chambers that Straub and Sack are done hiring. Parker's chambers said there were still 1-2 spots left.
how about Raggi?
Any news on jacobs or livingston?
Jacobs hired at least one grad (NYU) last month.
Anyone hear anything from Wesley?
Wesley called alums a couple weeks ago, but didn't interview anyone until this week (or last), I don't think.
Any idea where Wesley's interviewees were from, or whether he still plans to interview more graduates?
Wesley interviewed a Texas Law grad with a district court clerkship for 08-09.
McLaughlin is done.
Have any Raggi interviewees heard anything? Is she still interviewing? Any idea when she will make a decision?
Anyone hear anything from Wesley or know when he plans to make hiring decisions?
I interviewed with Judge Raggi a couple of weeks ago, and haven't heard anything either way.
Has anyone?
12:37 are you a grad applicant?
12:37, here. I also interviewed with her at the beginning of the month. I am a grad.
Sorry, last post was by 11:23, not 12:37.
Does anyone know if Wesley is still review grad applications or if he is still interviewing?
According to http://lawclerkaddict2009.blogspot.com/, Raggi hired 1 from Yale. Has she sent any rejection letters to grads she has interviewed?
That website says Raggi has hired 2 from Yale as of July 17, but I (grad) have not gotten my rejection yet.
has Raggi hired ONE from yale or TWO from yale for 2009-10?
The lawclerkaddict 2009 site says that Raggi has hired ONE from yale. The 2 next to her name on the listings by school references the Second Circuit...
Raggi has also made a second hire.
sack is done for the year -- he hired all grads
Does anyone know if Wesley is still interviewing grads?
When someone posted about Straub being done, was that for 2009-2010? Or 2010-2011? Straub has been done for 2009-2010 for a while now.
As of April of this year, Straub had two positions for 2009-10. He filled both positions sometime between then and June 25, when it was first posted that he was finished.
Any word from Straub?
Is Livingston done hiring for 2009-2010?
Has anyone heard from Wesley?
Livingston is following the plan but her clerks appear to have sent an email to some 3Ls asking them to notify them if they are taking interviews early or plan to take an offer.
Pooler calling/emailing for 2010-11
Does anyone know how many spots Sotomayor has open at this point?
I heard she's full Thursday for interview slots and is hiring to fill 2 clerkship positions.
Has Katzmann called today or started interviewing for 2010-2011?
Katzmann, Straub, and Jacobs...for 2010-2011. Any calls? Updates?
Anyone hear from Wesley?
This is the problem with this site. No one is posting, even on the most active day of the year. I don't mean to disparage this site in particular. I think it's a great idea to host a central repository for clerkship info. At the same time, not everything that deters people from sharing this info in the first place is changed by having a central, accessible, anonymous site. Namely, I don't like sharing info here because, before apps are submitted, I jealously guard whatever insider information I have, and after apps are submitted, I don't want to run the risk, however small, of being identified based on the information I post. Anonymizing the information makes it less useful, and so gives me less of a reason (if I'm motivated by altruism, or anything like it) to share.
752- you're assuming all 8-10 of the interviewees for each judge use this site and post comments. given how many people HAVE posted, and the fact that past experience demonstrates a lot more will come in tomorrow, i think youre just bitter.
Katzmann called for 10-11
Well hopefully not everyone feels like you do, although that seems to be the case with the lack of posts today, particularly on the Second Circuit.
8:27, 7:52 here. I understand where your criticism is coming from, and you can take mine or leave it.
If you choose to believe me, I scheduled interviews with five Second Circuit judges today. I have a rough idea of where I stand. My comments aren't necessarily meant to describe my own (current) frustrations -- which are admittedly somewhat petty -- but a general frustration with, and maybe an explanation for, the lack of information that frustrates many clerkship applicants. My frustration was much more acute before applications went out, but only because I think the order of my interviews now provides me a lot of information.
I don't agree with you that many useful comments have come in lately (or at least I haven't found those that have come in useful). And I don't believe that many more will come in tomorrow. I hope that they will, but I don't think that's a realistic expectation.
was wesley one of the five that you scheduled with?
9:11-
Good for you that you scheduled 5 different interviews today. Mind sharing your stats?
Jacobs called today.
Wesley seems to have been off the radar today. Did anyone hear from him or know anyone that did?
Cabranes?
Livingston?
Calabresi???
Calabresi and Livingston have called.
Calls that have been made: Katzmann, Raggi, Jacobs, Kearse, Calabresi, Ssotomayor.
What's the story with Wesley?
Wesley hired someone for the position starting in January 2009.
Wesley hired someone for the position starting in January 2010.
The 10:52 comment is correct, not the 10:42 comment about Wesley. Sorry about the confusion.
Is Wesley still in Geneseo, or has he moved to Manhattan?
Has anyone heard anything from or about Cabranes?
Wesley is in Geneseo. He's from that area of the state, so I highly doubt he has any intentions to move.
To follow up on 9:55 am - any word on Cabranes yet?
Straub???
Straub is done for 09-10 and has already started hiring for 10-11.
Who has been hired by Straub for 2010 (stats)?
Kearse is done for 09 to 10.
anyone hear from Hall yet for 2010-2011?
I interviewed with Leval for a 2009-2010 spot and haven't heard anything. Does anyone know if he's done all his hiring?
By fairly early in the morning on 9/11, Leval was saying that he was full for the 09-10 season.
raggi's done
Calabresi is done: Harvard, Yale, NYU, Cornell
Stats on Raggi's new hires?
Any word from Newman?
Wesley hired an NYU 3L.
any news on Hall?
Does anyone know the stats for Leval's hires for 2009-2010?
Still haven't seen any comments about Hall? Any news on him?
Hall has been done for 09-10 for some time now.
So did Straub hire for 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, or is this site just awful this year?
Here's my attempt to figure out where things stand. Between this site, the Law Clerk Addict blog, and OSCAR, twelve judges are reportedly finished for 09-10: Calabresi, Hall, Katzmann, Pooler, Sack, Straub, Wesley, Feinberg, Kearse, Leval, McLaughlin, and Walker. There are conflicting reports on Parker.
Four more judges have been active since the summer: Jacobs, Livingston, Sotomayor, and Raggi. But OSCAR shows that the first three have one spot available, and Raggi isn't confirmed to be done yet.
Finally, there's been virtually no word on the remaining five: Cabranes (hired one from BC), Cardamone, Newman, Winter (hired one from NWU), and Miner.
Is any of this inaccurate? And is there any news on the latter nine judges -- Jacobs, Livingston, Sotomayor, Raggi, Cabranes, Cardamone, Newman, Winter, or Miner?
cabranes hired one from penn
Miner has no spots available as of today.
Sotomayor and Livingston are done.
Raggi is done. Read above before you post people asking about oodles of judges. Unless you hear otherwise (some of the Senior judges, for example), the 2d Circuit is done.
4:33,
From what school is the 4th Livingston hire? Who told you that she is done?
Straub?
Anyone know if Newman has begun interviewing or offering? Is he waiting until January to start?
Anyone know what the deal is with Judge Pauley? Still an open spot, no hire?
There is a piece on www.newmajority.com regarding Kirsten Gillibrand's 2nd Circuit Clerkship. I was curious what the odds were that someone who does not graduate order of the coif or law review at UCLA can obtain a 2nd Circuit clerkship?
Thoughts?
Gillibrand clerked for Miner, who's based in Albany... it probably has a lot to do with the fact that she was local to the area.
I don't think Gillibrand would have had a prayer of landing a clerkship with Miner, who at the time was on HW Bush's shortlist without significant connections. The fact that she was from Albany would count in her favor but wouldn't even get her in the door without connections.
i hear 2nd circuit has started hiring grads for 2010-2011, anyone hear the same?
has livingston been interviewing alums yet?
Have Sotomayor or Livingston started interviewing yet?
Judge Kermit is hiring?
For those who don't know, Law Clerk Addict is covering the 2010-11 cycle, and has a notifications section as well as a second devoted to the Second Circuit.
