Anyone heard from CT judges? Burns? Hall?

Supreme Court has called for interviews...mostly this week. Appellate doesn't go after people until after the SC has filled. App. will probably be calling people next week or so.

Justice Palmer is done.

Anonymous said...

Anyone heard about any of the other Justices since the comment on the 19th?

Appellate Court did all their calling yesterday and today. Interviews are on the 6th and 7th.

Are you sure that the CT Appellate Court has extended interviews already? I have not heard that anyone has gotten an interview scheduled yet including people who were interviewed by the SC. Also based on last year's interview schedule, the Court only let people know by email 6 days prior to the interviews. Any current and accurate information people have would be appreciated.

Just spoke with the judges' secretary at the Appellate Court. No interviews have yet been offered; the judges are still reviewing resumes. She said that interviews will be extended in the next few days.

So still no news on the CT SCT clerkship positions? I dont think they're done.....

I know a few people that have already had interviews at the SC and were told they didn't get it. My understanding is that the SC has finished its selection process. The App. Court, however, has not yet extended invitations to interview but is expected to do so today or tomorrow at the latest. Those interviews will be Oct. 6 and 7.

The supreme court had one hold out who hired yesterday (Monday). The appellate court will be notifying people by email tomorrow (Wednesday). Whoever said they already called is fully of baloney.

Anonymous said...

Who was the hold out? I've heard only 3-4 of the Justices have hired....

Anonymous said...

Appellate has finished notifying.

I was notified by email of my invitation to interview with an App. Court judge next week. I also know that other candidates were likewise been notified this morning. It is my understanding, however, that the senior judges are doing their own hiring this year, and I don't know if their choices were notified at the same time that the interviewees of the permanent judges. My guess is that all invitations have gone out by now, but candidates can always call the judges' secretary to confirm this rather than relying on this site, which has contained misinformation in the past. Congrats to those that heard this morning and good luck to those still waiting to hear.

Does anyone know if invitations for the "pool" law clerks have been sent out? I heard from individual judges, but am curious if anyone knows the deal with this.

Does anyone know how quickly (or not quickly) after interviews the App. Ct. judges make their hiring decisions?

Anonymous said...

Last year they decided within a day or two. You'll know pretty much immediately.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know how many people each judge usually interviews?

Anonymous said...

I have a pool interview. Does anyone know what the difference between this and interviews for individual judges?

Anonymous said...

I interviewed today but didn't know who to ask about when we will hear about an offer. Does anyone know when we can expect to hear either way?

Anonymous said...

I interviewed today as well, and was not told when we could expect to hear. A friend that interviewed with DiPentima said she was told she would hear within a week. On the other hand, two pool clerks from last year did not hear for close to three weeks. It may be that clerks to permanent judges hear within a week, while pool clerks hear within three weeks. That said, the senior judges are hiring the pool clerks on their own this year, which suggests the process may be accelerated as compared to last year. The short answer, I suppose, is that we will hear anywhere from now to three weeks from now.

Got a callback today with an offer from the pool. I asked if they knew when I would hear back from the individual judges, and I was told likely within a few days.

Anonymous said...

Interesting that they would call the pool first. Has anyone heard from individual judges?

Anonymous said...

Just got an offer from Judge Robinson by phone.

Anonymous said...

Individual judges made offers by phone today.

For future reference, applications to clerk in the appellate court were handled as follows this year. Applications had to be submitted by August 31. Invitations to interview with a judge or with various judges were sent via email on Wednesday, October 1st. Interviews were held on October 6th & 7th. Successful applicants for permanent judges and for the pool were made offers by their respective judges via phone on Tuesday, October 14th. The whole process is pretty truncated but they don't keep you waiting that long. It should be noted, however, that this was just my experience -- I have no idea whether judges are still calling people to make offers. Final word of advice for future applicants, don't believe everything you read on this board. There are some miscreants out there who enjoy spreading false information to make people fear the worst. Good luck to anyone still waiting to hear for this year and to those applying in the future.

Any news on the Superior Court? I know they already did some first round interviews.

Anonymous said...

You won't hear from the superior court until March or so. Second round interviews will probably begin in December and run through the end of January.

Anonymous said...

Thanks! I will put my Zanax away now....

Does anyone know what the pedigree of most of the appellate clerks is? What schools were drawn from?

Anonymous said...

The CT appellate court drew heavily from UConn Law. I'd say at least 3/4 of the clerks come from there.

Anonymous said...

What schools are the Supreme Court clerks typically drawn from?

Anonymous said...

I got hired with an individual appellate judge. Just thought I would describe my process for future applicants, much like the user above who was concerned about the idiots who post false information.
I submitted my application in August, right at the deadline. I got an email from the secretary for the appellate court at the end of September informing me I had interviews with three judges. I went on the second interview day, and did all three interviews in a row. All three interviews were completely different, so you really need to do some research to anticipate what kinds of questions your judge will ask (ie contact previous law clerks for that judge).
About a week later, I got a call from my judge offering me the position. She told me I had to accept that day, which I did.
Background: Journal experience but not top of the class, solid grades. I also know someone who somehow got three interviews with the CT Supremes and landed a job there, yet didn't get one interview with the appellate court. The process is a mystery I guess.

Anonymous said...

For anyone still out there, the Superior Court/legal research has sent out email invitations to interviews.

Anonymous said...

Yup got mine. Going to try to postpone that interview and writing sample until sometime well after finals though.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know what impact the economy is going to have on hiring superior court/legal research clerks? I know the state has an executive hiring freeze, so I'm curious whether the judiciary has been forced to downsize or trend down their hiring at all too?

Anonymous said...

Clerks are deemed essential staff. All open positions will be filled, regardless of a hiring freeze.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone had their interview for the superior court yet? How did it go?

Are most of the people at Conn. Supreme Court from T14 or local schools like UCONN and Quinnipiac?

Anonymous said...

@ 3:42 PM:

Nobody from Quinnipiac as far as I'm aware. UConn got two in there for next year, usually they get between 2-4. There are some T14's who will be on there (mostly Yale), and then the better regional schools will have a few reps (think BC, etc.)

Anonymous said...

Any news on the Trial Court? I think they are done interviewing.

Anonymous said...

Superior Court is done interviewing. They take the month of February to evaluate writing samples, contact references, compare candidates, etc. Those interviewed will find out sometime in March if they made the cut.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know what the chances are that any of the courts have to cut the number of clerks they have already offered employment to for next year (or for the superior court, has to hire less than they planned to)? I wouldn't be so nervous if the state budget process wasn't such a disaster right now, plus I heard judiciary's budget is getting cut.

Anonymous said...

I heard that the first day of training, they're going to bring everyone into a room and tell them they have to fire half the clerks. After that, they're going to put a jagged peice of wood in the middle of the room and leave. Whoever comes out alive gets to clerk. For an example of how this works, see The Dark Knight.

Anonymous said...

Wow. That could get ugly... I hope we hear something soon...

Anonymous said...

If anyone hears from the Superior Court could they post that they received a call so I'm not waiting to no avail? Thank you!

Anonymous said...

FYI, last year's site indicates that people were hearing around March 17th-18th. I would think that we'll be finding out any day now.

Anonymous said...

Heard through the grapevine last night that we may not be hearing on Superior Court until the very end of March or potentially even early April. Just a heads up that it might be another couple weeks.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for the update- I appreciate any tidbit of news!

Anonymous said...

UConn career services says to expect it the first week of April.

Anonymous said...

Received an offer from Superior Court today. Given 24 hours to consider.

Anonymous said...

Did you accept it?

Anonymous said...

I'm taking that with a grain of salt. This thread has been full of false information, and Legal Research said first week of April, not last week of March.

Anonymous said...

Just heard from a very reliable source that tomorrow is the drop-dead date - they'll be letting everyone know tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

Is it too late to apply?

Anonymous said...

I got an offer and accepted last week, so I think the post above was legitimate. Congratulations to everyone else, and good luck to anyone who has not heard.

Anonymous said...

Yep, Superior Court is done hiring.

Anonymous said...

Was the offer via email, phone, or postal mail? Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Phone. If you haven't heard yet, you didn't get it. They only hired something like 12 people this year, since all their previous clerks decided to stay on due to the failing job market.

Anonymous said...

When they made my phone offer (3/26/09) they told me they were making all offers before April. Also indicated that limited positions this year due to fiscal considerations. Hope everyone got the news they were looking for!

Anonymous said...

Just to update, they're still calling for Superior Court.

Anonymous said...

Got a call today... it ain't over.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone received anything in the mail?

Anonymous said...

If by "in the mail" you mean rejection letters, my guess would be no. I'd guess you'll be waiting a long time on those - they'll first make sure they have all the spots filled for next year before officially rejecting anyone. However, if you've gotten a call (and accepted) you should have received some paperwork in the mail by now.

Anonymous said...

Anything new?

Anonymous said...

Just got an email about Supreme Court clerk info -- there are only six of us. Did someone back out at the last minute?

Anonymous said...

Has anyone else received a call with an offer from the Superior Court?

Anonymous said...

I (and most others) received calls from the Superior Court almost a month ago. I think there's still a slim chance you might get a call from them, as it seems as though they are hiring on a rolling basis as people leave and as money becomes available...but I wouldn't hold my breath. Like someone said, until you get a rejection letter, you've still got hope.
