2009-10 Clerkship Season
88 comments:
Wilkinson hired one from Michigan.
For 2009-2010? Is he totally off the plan?
I believe the Michigan hire was a graduate. Graduates are not bound to the plan.
So then he does follow the plan for law students?
Thanks in advance for your help.
That I don't know. The best way to find out is to call the chambers. The secretary will know that.
Wilkinson hires early, even for current students.
Agee hired from Richmond and William & Mary for 2008-2010.
so his clerks will go up with him, and he won't hire for 2009?
I think Virginia Supreme Court justices typically hire two clerks. Thus, if Agee completes his staff as do most other circuit judges, he will need to fill two more slots for 08-10.
Does anyone know for certain if Judge Agee is planning to hire four clerks for two year terms starting in 2008? Most judges who hire for two year terms stagger two of their clerks' start dates, so they don't end up with four knew clerks all at the same time . . . .
oops - I meant "four new clerks" not "four knew clerks"
Does anyone know if Agee plans to have his chambers in Richmond? If not, where will they be?
Anyone know when King or Michael start looking at grad applications?
Anyone know if Motz is hiring this year?
Motz just listed openings on OSCAR
Is Gregory done hiring? OSCAR indicates that he filled at least one slot.
anyone know what address one should use to send application materials to Agee? TIA
I would just call the main 4th Circuit clerk of court's office and ask for address. Did this in a parallel context and it worked out well in the end.
I called Judge Gregory's chambers, and he is still accepting graduate applications for 2009-2010.
Agee sits in Salem, Virginia and plans to continue sitting there last I heard.
Judge Gregory is accepting applications for 2009-2010. His chambers is in the process of correcting OSCAR.
Niemeyer hired an 08 UVA grad for 09-10.
Does anyone know when Niemeyer started interviewing? And does he usually give offers on the spot?
Have any graduates heard from either King or Michael in West Virginia?
I heard Agee is taking up his 2 current clerks and has hired a third, a former clerk of his. As far as I know, he has not filled the fourth slot. I heard he is waiting for the fall hiring plan for that one. I understand that he might be hiring two in the fall, as one of his current clerks is only going to stay in the federal position for a limited period. Don't know if that means he will have an immediate opening in the fall.
I called the clerk's office for the Fourth Circuit. Agee's application materials should be addressed to him and sent to the clerks office in Richmond. They then forward this mail to him until his chamers is completely established in Salem
Motz hired a Maryland Law student. Thanks for this site!
A response letter from Agee stated he has finished hiring for now but that he would consider the application in the fall cycle.
What about Karen Williams? Anyone know if she's started hiring yet?
The information my school's career services office got was that Judge Williams would be conducting interviews this week, July 7 - 11. I'm afraid that I won't be hearing from her since I haven't gotten a call yet.
Word on the street is that King's done hiring. Anyone heard the same?
Darn. Any idea where King hired from?
Karen William's OSCAR page previously said she was interviewing last week (July 7-11). It has now been updated to say that she is interviewing through July 18. So, does anyone know if she is still accepting apps?
King hired grads from UVA and GW.
King also hired a Duke 3L, so I'm assuming he's done
Karen Williams has hired one clerk, but still has one opening. She's still accepting applications, I hear, at least for the coming weeks.
King is done
Has Williams called anyone yet?
Anyone know about Michael? Is he reviewing grad applications now?
Just called the clerks office for Niemeyer. He has not started interviewing. Michael has hired one of three.
Any idea where Michael hired from? Is he still reviewing grad applications, or has he called all he plans to interview?
Anyone know where Shedd is in the process with grad applications?
Just called Judge Williams' chambers to ask about application status, which I had submitted via OSCAR. Her chambers informed me they use a gmail account as well: kjw.clerk.apps@gmail.com because OSCAR blocks applications from current students until September. Judge Williams is still accepting applications.
I had heard Shedd was done with his hires; he's definitely hired one or two already.
Any idea where Shedd hired from?
Is Michael still reviewing graduate applications?
Got a rejection letter form King today saying that he is finished hiring.
Has Motz finished hiring?
Anyone know about Duncan?
Do you know whether Judge Agee has started interviewing canidates??
Per chambers, Judge Agee has started interviewing for the clerkship starting fall 2008.
Michael has hired one clerk from NYU & will hire two others after the OSCAR applications come in, though he might interview early.
Has anyone heard any Wilkinson news recently? Today is normally the day he starts interviewing isn't it?
Wilkinson hired two UVA 3Ls this week.
Wilkinson is done.
2:16 - Do you know if Michael is still considering graduate applications he received this summer, or is he just looking at 3L applications at this point.
Any word on Duncan?
Any news on Agee?
One of Shedd's hires is a South Carolina student - graduating '09.
Agee has hired all 4 clerks for 2008-09, all VA schools. Anyone know if all his state court clerks were from VA schools? Is that all he hires? 2 still open for 2009-11. On plan for 3Ls but has been interviewing grads. Don't bother calling clerk or chambers because his staff can't discuss hiring until done. People who get in for interviews are the only source of updated info.
Duncan will be starting interviews on Wednesday. She only has one spot left.
Niemeyer and Motz are done.
Is Duncan interviewing for 2009-2010 now, or 2010-2011?
Judge Motz is not done hiring. The comment above is wrong.
Duncan is hiring for both. One spot for 09-10.
Any news on Michael or Gregory?
Did Motz call today?
I think Motz did call today.
I'm 8:04. Sorry, I have no clue re: whether Circuit Judge Motz called today; I got her confused with district judge Motz, who also sits in Baltimore.
Gregory called today
Motz (the 4th Cir. Motz) was making calls on Monday.
The comment about Motz may have been wrong, but Niemeyer is definitely done.
any confirmation on whether Gregory called yesterday?
Gregory called
Did Michael finish?
Gregory hired a Stanford 3L.
Niemeyer hired a VA grad, a Penn 3L and a Northwestern 3L. He was done on Friday
Williams hired a W&L student, but still has one spot open.
Do you know the credentials of the W&L student hired by Williams (i.e., top 5%, etc)?
Gregory hired a Berkeley 3L for 10-11.
Judge Motz is done
Williams was done last week.
does anyone know the stats on michael's hires (schools/yr)?
Agee has scheduled 3L interviews.
any further word from judge agee for those who interviewed?
Judge Agee made at least one offer today.
Duncan has hired at least one for 2010.
For those who don't know, Law Clerk Addict is covering the 2010-11 cycle, and has a notifications section as well as a section devoted to the Fourth Circuit.
